Buying in Spain

Since buying our property in Punta Prima we have set up our own agency to help other British buyers find their dream home in Spain with minimum hassle. When I say Spain , we are concentrating on the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida for now because that is the area we know best and are still producing good growth for investors.  

We have been through the whole process which at best is frustrating and at worst - down right infuriating. However, we don’t regret a thing and have learnt an awful lot about property in Spain and the way things are done.  

We bought our place in 2003 off plan for £160k, took delivery in May 2005 and the same apartment is now selling for over £200k. Even though we don’t intend selling it because it’s our dream holiday home for now and future retirement haven, it’s nice to know its growing in value.  

The Southern Costa Blanca and Costa Calida are areas of massive investment and development and are predicted to grow fast for the next 10 years.  

Be Careful – There Are Many Pitfalls

This growth means that lots of people are trying to flog property and there are lots of “hard sell” firms trying to get people to sign up without really understanding what they are buying into. These firms advertise heavily, fly you out there and the salesmen will tell you what you want to hear to get their commission. We have met numerous people who have had poor experiences with this type of firm.  

The alternative is to deal direct but this is difficult because of the language barrier and the totally different ways in which the Spanish operate. Believe me if you have ever found it difficult to deal with a bank or solicitor in the UK then Spain is a total minefield.
